ISWA, the International Solid Waste Association, is a non-profit organisation whose purpose it is to foster international sustainable waste management through scientific, economic and social means. The ISWA tries to achieve this by maintaining an international network to disseminate information and share experiences, as well as by developing training courses and organising meetings, seminars and conferences, such as the annual ISWA Congress. ISWA has 1,100 members in 64 countries.

The VKS, member of the VKU support association, was established in 2002. The members of VKS include private enterprises, trade associations and individuals. The purpose of the association is to support the local organisation `VKS im VKU` in carrying out its tasks. To this end the association particularly facilitates the exchange of experience between representatives of the communal waste management plants and experts of private enterprises, who generate, produce and offer essential technical and organisational equipment and know-how. Further responsibilities include cultivating international contacts. As the support association is a national member of ISWA, it can offer all individuals, enterprises and organisations in Germany the option of participating in international waste management developments.
